Research is defined as a systematic investigation to gain knowledge about something which involves series of processes; collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data in order to understand a particular phenomenon. Research methodology is a generic term that covers a host of research methods that indicates the philosophy and techniques of the various research methods.
The overall objective of the Research Methodology is to enable the student to perform in-depth research and write research papers following standard research methods. The course covers following topics: Concept and importance of Research; Types of Research, Evidence, Sources, and Types of Information in Buddhist Studies Research, Manuscriptology. Similarly, the paper also imparts knowledge on practical aspects of research which deals with the selection of topics, indemnification of research problem/questions, defining scope, limitation and rationale of research topics, the importance of literature review, citation and referencing techniques; proposal writing as well as preparation of research report (thesis). Having completed this course student will have an understanding about the techniques social science research with special focus on Buddhist Studies, be able to conduct research independently, enable to contribute new theory or vision on the specific subject with respect to Buddhist Studies
